Provenance
Provenance:Schwarz Gallery, Philadelphia, PennsylvaniaEstate of Robert A. Walsh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, purchased from the above, 1996Sold: Brunk Auctions, Asheville, North Carolina, March 15, 2014, Lot 585This lot has been authenticated by Judith Hansen O'Toole, formerly of the Westmoreland Museum, and is accompanied by a letter dated April 10, 1996. Her conclusion states, "It should be noted that Roesen painted a much greater number of fruit pieces than floral, making the latter more rare. The size and quality of your painting makes it an important example of the artist's work." She also notes the "unusual inclusion" of the hollyhocks amidst Roesen's other favored flowers.
